Connection of flickclip to the concept: Ask students how the sound waves emitted from the car are affected by the car's motion. What changes - the frequency, wavelength, or speed of sound? Ask students if this could happen to light. Instead of the pitch changing, what would change in light? How could this be used in astronomy? The teacher could then launch into a discussion of the Doppler effect and its uses as well as red/blue shift in astronomy. |
