2. Have students research volcanic activity
of famous composite volcanoes such as Mt. Vesuvius, Mt. Fuji, Mt.
Pelee, Mount St. Helens, and Mt. Pinatubo.
3. In Hawaii, many tourists go to see
the volcanoes erupt, but in this clip, everybody is panicking and
running away. Students can investigate the differences between the
eruption of Dante’s Peak and the shield volcanoes in Hawaii.
4. Dante’s Peak is a fictional volcano
in the Cascade Range. Have students look at other Cascade Range volcanoes
(Mount St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Shasta, etc.) and explore the
tectonic boundaries there to explain the origin of these volcanoes.
