Summary of clip: This clip is Lucy's introduction to Narnia and to Mr. Tumnus.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: Narnia has been cursed into constant winter. The residents have had to adapt to this new constant environment. Mr. Tumnas is a mythical creature called a Faun. These creatures appear to be half animal - half human. Mr. Tumnus's top half is bare and, if his skin is similar to ours, he would be very cold. This could start a conversation on adaptations...

Suggestions to teachers:

1. Suggested questions for students when viewing the clip:

a. Would Mr. Tumnus be able to continue thriving in this environment? Why or why not?

b. In what way do the makers of the movie convey that Mr. Tumnus would need some protection from the cold?

c. What types of animals in this mystical world would most likely not survive if they were unable to adapt to the environment?

2. Have the students split into groups and give each group a different habitat. Have the students come up with a way to adapt Mr. Tumnus properly to each habitat, then draw what Mr. Tumnus would look like in this environment. Next, have the groups share their adaptations and drawings with the rest of the class.

3. Have the students work in groups to research an adaptation and display it in a creative way.
