Summary of clip: Barry the bee and his friend Adam are graduating from bee school and are ready to work for the rest of their lives. They are taken on a tour of the hive to choose their job. Barry starts to question the idea of working for the rest of his life doing the monotonous work of a bee. He learns that bees work very hard and everything runs perfectly. He also reminds his friend that everyone in the hive is related.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: This clip gives a glimpse of a busy bee hive. Although in real bee hives males and females have distinct jobs as drones and workers, the idea that bee hives work in the most efficient and productive way is a reality. Bees use nectar to produce honey and play a big role in the pollinating of plants.
Suggestions to teachers:

1. Explore the Nova site-Anatomy of a Hive: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/bees/hive.html

2.Have students research the three types of bees in the hive and their specific function. (queen, drone, worker)

3. Research the Colony Collapse Disorder. Have groups of students develop a hypothesis on the reason behind the decline based on research.
