Summary of clip: Alex Cross is trying to solve the kidnapping of a senator’s young daughter. In this scene he is relying on his observational skills to find clues as to who Mr. Soneji, the kidnapper, really is. He realizes a picture is missing from Mr. Soneji’s office and goes back to Megan’s classroom to find out where it is. Watch as he follows the trial of evidence placed before him by Mr. Soneji.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: These flickclip scenes allow us to see that observation is very important. Without thorough observation one may not catch everything the first time through, thus multiple tests and experiments are needed to ensue that what you are observing is in fact the genuine answer that is exact and accurate.

Suggestions to teachers:

1. Discuss with students what types of observation there are.

2. Some questions to get students to relate observation to them: How important is observation in your life? To a scientist?

3. While watching Along Came a Spider have students study the rooms and try to figure out the clues with Alex Cross. Remind them, this is an observation activity so less is not more in this case.

4. Have a discussion on if they think they could have been able to see and find what Alex Cross found? Are they that observant in their daily lives?
